Pricing for the vacation packages listed below may be viewed on our rate chart -including opportunities for you to choose to have us provide pre cooked, re-heatable meals for you, or if you prefer, you may save a bit of cost and provide your own using the full-service kitchen which will be available for you.
Ranch Experience
If you're ready for a real life, working cattle ranch experience, this is the vacation for you! We are not a dude ranch. You won't get pampered, but you will become part of our crew and get a real cowboy experience. You'll not only learn about riding and gathering large herds of cattle, but you'll get a hands-on experience participating along side the cowboys. You have the opportunity to join in on all daily activities that would happen on the ranch even if guests were not present. Ride a ranch trained horse, as you experience the thrill of full days outdoors, living and working the land.
Advanced Working Ranch Experience
During early summer and fall, there are times when we are managing herds of up to 1,200 head of cattle on horseback, or branding over 500 head of calves in one day. These are special times for us on the ranch, and times that require a higher level of horsemanship, physical conditioning and herding knowledge. You will help us move up to 1,400 head of cattle in from far reaches of the ranch for fall cattle work. There is limited availability and past guests have first choice, but new guests are welcome if they have the horsemanship skills and hardness.
Ranching on Your Own / Independent Riding Vacations
If you're the independent type, a true horseman or horsewoman who would like nothing better than to be given good horses and tack (or bring your own!), a remote historic house for your abode, and the wide open prairie beckoning you each and every morning, then check into our Independent Riding Vacations.
Birding / Wildlife Stay Packages
With five lakes, hundreds of springs and two creeks feeding a vast expanse of wetalnds, the Chico is a Mecca for wildlike. It has over 300 birds on its list and a bird banding station, making it one of Colorado's premier birding sites. Its endless prarie rangelands are the home for huge herds of antelope as well as mule deer, coyotes, prarie dogs and badger. You are provided a house with fully-equipped kitchen, a guide on your first day to orient you, a horse if you choose and a map to facilitate exploring one of the richest prairie wildlife preserves on the high plains.
Other Activities
(For those who want a change from going out with the cowboys every day)
Fishing in one of five spring-fed lakes make one of the best warm water fisheries in Colorado. Bring your rod or use one of the ranch's and go out and catch your fill of bass, crappie, blue gill or perch.
Hiking and photography of miles of wildlife/cattle trails leading into the wetlands and open rolling prairie for hiking. With the abundance of wildlife there are multiple opportunities for photography, or you can photograph the cowboys working on horseback, the horses being run into the corrals, or any other ranch activity.
