The View at the Ranch

The Prairie

The Chico Basin has one of the most beautiful prairie landscapes imaginable: creeks, springs, wetlands and lakes. The Ranch is traversed by 14 miles of the Chico Creek, plus a handful of smaller streams. Its vast expanse of prairie, pools of water, and meandering creek bottoms support a rich wildlife population, including one of the highest densities of pronghorn in North America.

The Chico Basin Ranch has what one guest called "the long view." Its sweeping vistas epitomize the American west. From many locations on the ranch, you have an unobstructed view of a 120-mile panorama of the Rockies, including the Spanish Peaks (two ancient 13,000-foot volcanoes), the Greenhorns, the Sangre de Cristos, and, of course, 14,000-foot Pikes Peak.

Wildlife

The heart of the Chico Basin Ranch is the rich and diverse wildlife habitat. The Chico supports one of the highest densities of pronghorn in North America, as well as mule deer, coyotes, prairie dogs, badgers, eagles and other raptors, waterfowl, dove, quail, and over 150 species of migratory birds. The diversity and abundance of wildlife on the Chico Basin Ranch provide opportunities for unique photography and viewing experiences.

We believe that all plant and animal life on the Chico is precious and that its long-term health is critical to the viability of our business, of the ecosystem which supports it, and of the people who live on the ranch.
